SINCE 1994, when Nick Littmoden first took out a trainer’s licence, he has moved only in one direction, upwards.

Before starting out on his own as a trainer, Nick built up a good understanding of the profession while serving as assistant to Jenny Pitman and,  before that as pupil assistant to the late Mick Masson.   “From the moment I found racehorse training as a 19-year-old, I’ve never wanted to do anything else. That was it, I was hooked,” says Nick.
 
He began as a salaried handler at Southwell racecourse with just three horses in his care where part of his remit was to teach students from a nearby college who themselves wanted to become trainers. Switching to Wolverhampton, Nick soon established his own business and took a lease on a yard there.  His operation was growing rapidly at this stage with numbers rising as the successes came on an increasingly regular basis.
 
By early 1999, the realisation came that to continue progressing and improve the quality of stock it was necessary to move to larger premises. Therefore, in March of that year, Littmoden arrived at Southgate Stables on the Hamilton Road in Newmarket.  On the all-weather, especially, Littmoden has been a major force, taking the top trainer’s title on no less than 5 separate occasions.  Also, on the turf there have been many memorable days and Group wins in England and Ireland as well as frame finishes in Pattern company in both Germany and Canada. Sucesses at Royal Ascot and Heritage Handicaps is also where his name would have come to the fore.
 
2011 has seen the purchase of Brook Farm with a private onsite woodchip gallop, lunge pit, menage and 20 acres of paddocks for turnout.  With Newmarket's facilities on our doorstep and only a short horse box ride away you would struggle to find a nicer place from which to train. Nick remains eager for more success and is looking forward to 2012 where he will be targeting the biggest prizes in the sport.
 

EMMA LITTMODEN

Emma is a key part of the organisation,  juggling riding out, going racing and bringing up Grace, their 4 year old daughter. In between she also works for www.thelivingleader.com  which runs Personal Leadership Programmes. She is still involved in riding in the occasional race and to date has ridden in over 120 races, had 15 winners plus one over fences. She has had the honour of representing Great Britain in Vienna, Slovakia, Malaysia and Baden Baden. 

Her favourite horse is Echo of Thunder for whom she has high hopes.  Echo Of Thunder is a recent acquisition and is owned by Emma  and her mother Penny.  

 

 

GEMMA SNOOK

Gemma joined us in November 2011.  Her job is to make Nick and Emma's life easier!  She assists in the yard, riding out,  in the office, at the races and looks after Grace.  She has previously worked for Heather Dalton in Shropshire and moved to Newmarket 3 years ago to work for Neil King.  She lives with her boyfriend Steven (who also works for Nick) close to the yard.  They have a Labrador x Spaniel called Sketch that they compete at working dog trials.  Gemma also judges at local horse shows when her spare time allows.  If you have missed an episode of Eastenders you can always ask Gemma as she will be able to fill you in on the latest goings on. Her favourite horse is Cut Across.

 

CHRIS COGAN

Chris worked for Nick in 1999 and held his apprentice licence he came back to work for Nick in Autumn 2011,  He has ridden 43 winners to date and has recently taken out his jockey's licence again. He worked for Godolphin for 7 years including spending the last 4 winters in Dubai. He is a very dedicated member of the team and is a perfectionist in everything he does.  He is a very contientious person, as well as being an exceptional work rider Chris also helps our less experienced staff given them tips and encouragement when he can.  He is married to Helen and they have 2 children called Jacob and Freya.  He enjoys playing the guitar.  Chris and Danny can often be found jamming during there lunch break,  His favourite horses are Acclamation x Carpet Lady and Cookieshake.

 

DANNY NESTOROVIC

Danny is a vital cog in the team at Brook Farm organising the yard staff and keeping the day moving.  He used to worked for Don Cantillon and previously held his amateur licence.  He lives with his girlfriend Alex and has a son called James.  His favourite horse is Mr Greeley x Musical Treat and Cut Across

DANNY N (LITTLE)

Danny has worked for Nick for 2 years.  Before he worked at Brook Farm he worked for Ed Dunlop and Geroge Prodromou.  He has also held his apprentice licence.  He travelled with the 2011 Hong Kong Consignment and can not wait to return in February.  He is a keen gutarist and singer especially enjoying rock music,  Steel Panther can always be found in the stereo if Danny has been in the yard.  His favourite horse is Green Desert x Spritzeria.

 HELEN COGAN

Helen worked for Nick back in 2007 and has recently rejoined the team in January 2012 on a part time basis.  During the last 5 years she has worked at the British Racing School teaching students who wish to persue a career in The Racing Industry.  She is married to Chris who is also part of the team at Brook Farm.  They have 2 children called Jacob and Freya.  Helen is a qualified BHS Riding Instructor and is very helpful to have around to help the junior members of our team.  Her favourite horses are Oasis Dream x Royal Jade and Cookieshake.

CHARLOTTE FREDRIKSSON

Charlotte is from Sweden.  This is her first job since leaving full time education.  She has helped out in a Swedish racing yard during her spare time.  Her riding is improving all of the time and she is becoming good with the younger horses that we have.  Her favourite horses are Marju x Opera Comica and Betty Brook.

 AMY BURKE

Amy is the newest member of the team at Brook Farm.  Originally from Ireland she has just completed the 9 week foundation course at The British Racing School.  She completed work experience at Ray Guests in Newmarket and decided she liked the area and has chosen to stay.  She is currently studying towards her NVQ Level 2.  She enjoys shopping and going out with her friends.  Her favourite horse is Penbryn

DAVID 'FOO' FORMAN

Foo is Yard Man at Brook Farm.  He has worked for Nick for nearly 10 years.  His jobs include mucking out, putting horses on the walker and any general maintenance which may need doing.

STEVEN HARRISON

Steve is part of the furniture and has worked for Nick for 10 years.  Since retraining as a tree surgeon in 2006 Steve rides out when he has time but can always be found in the yard on a saturday morning.  He was apprentice to Nick in 2003 and knows exactly how Nick likes horses produced during work.  He travels with us to Hong Kong every year and even though we don't see him as often as we like, he is a handy person to have around as he can always supply us with logs!!!!  His favourite horse is Lord Theo.

GRACE LITTMODEN  

 

Possibly the most important member of the team!  Grace knows the names of all of the horses at Brook Farm.  She has a pony called Tiger Lily with whom  she has attended shows this summer . I  am pleased to say she returned with some red & blue rosettes - following in her parents footsteps!.  Her favourite horse Lord Theo and Tiger Lily.
