Jedd was brought up in Wetherby, West Yorkshire and was born into racing with his father Eddie having been a jockey and a trainer. After gaining a degree in Russian Language and Soviet Studies, Jedd was enticed back into the sport of kings. He completed a year-long course in horse management at Cambridgeshire Agricultural College, graduating with distinction. Jedd’s career in racing began as pupil-assistant to Micky Hammond in Middleham. Soon promoted to travelling head lad for the yard, he remained in that role for six years before being appointed assistant trainer for two. At the same time Jedd and wife Andrea were running a livery yard and in 2000 he decided to take out a training licence himself.
Starting with the minimum of three horses, Jedd hit the ground running with his first runner Lullaby finishing second at Chester.
