On Monday Quilver Tatou traveled to Lingfield for a novice handicap chase, he has been off the track for a wee while so it was good to get him back on the track. He jumped pretty well and finished second to what appears to be a well handicapped horse. Hopefully he will go one better soon.
We were really hopeful of a big run from Dunseedee but unfortunately after the race she was found to be lame behind. Dunsee will be off the track for the rest of the season but she does remain a novice so she should be one to keep an eye on next season. Simply Strong was having his first run for some time and Denis O Regan said that he will come on for the run and thought he would be better on quicker ground.
Rebel Melody and Charming Lad have both come out of their races well. Charming Lad ran a cracker in what looks like an above average novice hurdle, he will make a lovely staying chaser one day. Rebel ran another sound race, although he runs in blinkers he is the most genuine horse, the blinkers just help him concentrate when jumping.
Traffic Chaos was having his first run for us after winning an Irish point, Denis O Regan said that he did not enjoy the ground.
Mr Big has just won the 3 mile handicap chase at Warwick. He was given a power packed ride in the finish by Peter Toole to beat AP McCoy a head, so a great way to finish the year.
We have plenty of runners this weekend, Moon Over Miami runs at Cheltenham tomorrow, Paul Moloney takes the ride, Paul was in to school Moon Over yesterday. It is a terribly competitive handicap. We have 3 runners at Fakenham, Nosecond Chance, Schumpters Lad and Art Exhibition, Peter Toole rides all three.
On Sunday Charming Lad and Rebel Melody make the trip to Plumpton for Peter Toole and a new recruit to the yard Traffic Chaos, has his first run for us at Folkestone, Denis O'Regan gets the leg up. Denis was also in yesterday to school, Charlie had about 25 horses schooling,as it was the first time we could school on the grass for a couple of weeks we thought we had better get as many horses jumping as possible.
Fine Parchment has just won a competitive Conditional Jockey's handicap chase at Cheltenham. He was given a great ride by Peter Toole, who was positive throughout, Fine Parchment jumped superbly and won by 15 lengths going away. He will not get away lightly by the handicapper after this performance but he has certainly been progressive this season. After his summer break Charlie changed his daily routine & gave him a wind operation which all seems to have worked the oracle.
Spear thistle back in light work after suffering a nasty overreach while winning at Leicester, The rest of the string cantering on the hill gallop
No schooling this morning as the ground is frozen solid!! We have a few runners at Cheltenham tomorrow. Mr Big returns for his favoured cross country jumps under new rider Ken Whelan. Ken has plenty of experience over these unique obstacles. Ebony Diamond should run well in the Novice hurdle if settling better but a few at the head of the market will be hard to beat. Fine Parchment runs in the Conditonals Jockeys Chase, He has progressed well this season but would probably prefer softer ground over this trip (2m 5f). Fingers crossed racing will go ahead as planned!!
It has been freezing here all day, with fog just to add to it. All jump racing is off, the first prospect of any jumping being on is at Huntingdon on Thursday but they are not terribly hopeful and are having an inspection on Wednesday morning at 8am.
Thankfully our gallops have been open for the whole period of this arctic weather & the horses have been training as normal. Once racing resumes there will be plenty of horses looking to get a run, so in some of the novice events horses will be getting balloted out which is a real pain but out of our hands.
This morning we had Paul Moloney and Denis O Regan in for one lot. We managed to school some of the new horses over tyres and barrels in the rubber arena. Still very cold and some snow to make matters worse. The gallops have remained opened with the horses work still remaining as normal. Hopefully next week things will get back to normal.
Gallops open as normal Kieran on Akbabend
